Today is my last day at Asbury College. I've been there 3 years, 2 months, 3 weeks, roughly, and it's been a good time. There have been interesting projects, great coworkers, and scads of great opportunities that I couldn't have had elsewhere. It was a hard decision to leave, but it's an opportunity I didn't want to let get past.
A lot of people have told me I'm crazy for not taking off some time between jobs. Perhaps. I am excited to get started as soon as I can, and there are already a significant stack of tasks that I need to get started on.
All the best in your new job. I know Asbury will miss you. And I applaud your work ethic, too. For you it's not about doing as little as you can get away with.
Good luck Rich!
Rich,
Not wanting to take time of is proof that you've done the thing that will make you happy, and that's what counts. I spun the career-roulette wheel last November and I haven't looked back. Good luck.
I don't think your crazy. I also don't think that it is necessarily evidence of a good work ethic that you are going from one job to another. Human beings need time to decompress from one moment in life to the next.
That being said, I trust that you wouldn't have taken this route if it wasn't the best for you and your family.
Given the state of the current economy, I'd think you crazy if you DID take time off between the jobs. More than a couple days, at least.
A delayed start date means a delayed first paycheck. But there I go being the pragmatic utilitarian again.
