Tell me you do know about Librarything.com? It lets you organize and keep track of your books. Tagging, social networking with people who also own your books, wish lists, reviews and more! You can also upload your entire collection at once by isbn. Lovely.
I did use LibraryThing briefly. I also used a thing called Delicious Library, which is a Mac application. And GoodReads.com, and perhaps a half-dozen others. The main problem I had with all of them was that I simply don't keep up with it.
I tend to read in a very stream-of-consciousness manner. One book leads inevitably to another, and on it goes.
